3. How terribly disappointing. It's a sad day.

7. Is there anything we can do to keep it running? Can we take over hosting it?

8. Well that sucks.

9. Well that's crap. What exactly is the evolution of Weblogs Inc? Away from photography? I've just found this blog, and was considering applying to be a contributor.
How's about opening it for voluntary contributors, or even donating the blog? Or someone answering some comments?
11. It wouldn't be a big deal if this weren't a topic rich with possibilities for news, tips, and community features.
I mean, DV Guru stays open and digital photogrpahy shuts down? The Tablet PCs site is still up? How is that possible? No offense to those sites intended. Just saying that as topics go, digital photography eclipses both of those on any given day.
Somebody should take this ball and run with it. I don't get it. More (quality) content and maybe a few more writers wouldn't hurt. Digital photography seems an odd market to snub.
If AOL isn't willing to fund it as part of Weblogs, Inc. that just means an independent person could keep the revenue for themselves.

12. As the only writer on the blog I only found out about the closure a few days ago - things move quickly at Weblogs INc.
There have been numours calls for writers to the blog over the last few months to boost the supply of relevant news, reviews and tips. But as far as I am aware no one applied. Without heavier posting - more than my abilities could supply - the future of the blog was always in doubt.

13. Oh no!!! Bummer!
Well - those who are looking for something like it to fill the space, come by and check out a newly launched non-profit vancouver based collective photographer blog over at vancouver.photobloggers.org.
We are kinda focued on local goin-ons - but will cover photography tech stuff too...
I just want to let you know that you guys at The Digital Photography Weblog are one of our insperations... It'll be sad to see you go.
15. It simply is not fair. Too many "weblogsinc" blogs are being axed ... While this may not have been as high profile and as news capturing as it could have been for some; I always enjoyed swinging by and pretty much visited every day.

17. I was expecting this, but such a disappointment still. The lack of updates was telling me its own story.
I am sure it has potential, and on several occasions wondered if I could do something to help out etc - but I am only a novice photographer and too far away from USA and what can I do...
But yes, you could explain the decision a lot better without giving away business secrets.
18. damn i just found out about this site too, but then again, i knew it wouldn't have been as updated as say engadget, but it coulda had a little more i suppose. it will be missed however.

20. Sorry to hear of the closure. I will admit to being deterred as both a reader and a contributor by the sparseness of content and updates though.
I wrote a short entry regarding the closure at http://www.goldengod.net/2006/08/17/the-digital-photography-weblog-powers-off/

1. But...but...why?
How does this fit into the evolution of weblogs?
